Education
One of the greatest needs throughout the area inhabited by the Maasai is schooling. The lack of educational facilities has greatly contributed to the poverty and loss of economic self determination for the Maasai. Education for most Maasai children begins late as few schools exist and are too far away for young children to attend. For this reason, going to school has never been an option.
Providing a well balanced education to Maasai children is incalculable in helping them gain an understanding of their own culture, identifying who they are and providing them with a perspective of the outside world. The aim of the educational project is solely to provide the children with the freedom of choice and the endless boundaries that come with knowledge and not in any way to impose on the lifestyle or cultural traditions of the Maasai or force Western views. It is the goal of MWCT to provide an education to the youth of Kuku Group Ranch which will enhance their future potential, teach them to embrace their cultural values, and ultimately allow them to have alternatives for their futures.
PROJECT GOALS:
- Build or sponsor the building of schools and additional classrooms within Kuku Group Ranch
- Fund a teaching staff
- Improve access to computers and the internet for staff and students
- Fund educational scholarships on a merit basis at all levels
- Provide educational material such as textbooks, pencils, chalk and maps
