Schools

There are a total of 14 government run schools within Kuku Group Ranch. Less than half of these schools have adequate facilities and space to accommodate the growing student population, and it is often that entire classes are held on the ground outdoors, without desks or chairs, due to lack of space. MWCT has built three large divided school rooms which can hold two grade levels, and we plan to build more classrooms where they will be the most beneficial. Recently MWCT, with the support of Hotelplan, was able to construct an entire school, consisting of 8 classrooms and 2 teachers’ housing units. This school is equipped with a sufficient teaching staff, as well as educational supplies and a resource center. It is our hope to be able to contribute to each of the fourteen schools in this way to provide the best possible academic atmosphere for the students.

The ideal school should have a classroom for each of the eight grades, plus one for the kindergarten/nursery. A classroom can be built for approximately $6,000. Basic hygiene conditions require that pit latrines are installed for the children and a bathroom for the teachers, in each of the schools. The improvement and growth of each school, and the provision of academic resources like text books, and eventually computers, are part of our long term plans for development in the education sector.
